Nwoyean Dream Interpretation Mode

2026 โ€“โ€“

Research Team: Victoria Philibert, Dr. Augustine Nwoye, Dr. Kelly Bulkeley, Andrew Boyer, Kat Juncker

This project adapts, with permission, the psychoanalytic dream theory of Dr. Augustine Nwoye into an interpretation mode for a free dream journaling software application. Nwoye's framework, developed from surveys, fieldwork, and literature from specific communities in Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, and Tanzania, holds that dreaming is a way of knowing, and distinguishes dreams by their source: individuocentric dreams that compensate for or anticipate the dreamer's own desires, intersubjective dreams carrying messages meant for others, and spiritualist dreams received as visitations from the ancestral world.
